I wanted to find a few places that would be fun to eat at during our time in DC. I combed through Pinterest, blogs and even asked my friends on Facebook. The following are some of the recommendations we were able to hit during our vacation.
I’m a cupcake fanatic and I love visiting cupcake stores all over the country. I heard this was the best one in DC so we visited Georgetown Cupcakes as we rolled into town. Two sisters started this brand and have become very successful through their DC Cupcakes show on TLC.
All the cupcakes looked delicious but we settled on red velvet, vanilla and chocolate, milk chocolate birthday, cookies and creme and dad chocolate. OMG! I had to resist eating all of them.
Georgetown Cupcakes now has several locations throughout the United States. They are worth waiting in line for.
We the Pizza
After a full morning of touring the monuments we wanted some pizza and found this wonderful, make your own pizza place called We the Pizza. These rustic pizza really hit the spot and filled us up to take on Arlington cemetery in the afternoon. They also have old fashioned sodas made with natural spring water and homemade syrups, as well as, homemade Italian gelatos.
There are several locations in the DC area.
Our favorite place was only a few miles from our hotel. The Quarterdeck is a fixture in the Fort Meyer Heights neighborhood since 1979. We got to sit out on the patio because it was a beautiful night out. The inside is a little squished but definitely well loved. Quarterdeck is known for their season Maryland Blue Crab feat and cold beer. I say bring it on!
We started with some hush puppies and clam chowder to wet our hungry appetites. Then came the main course of Maryland blue crabs that were thrown right onto the table. After tying bibs around our neck we grabbed our mallets and went to town. It was the first time the girls had to really work for their dinner. Joe also got the pan sweared salmon to top off the wonderful crab dinner.
This restaurant has a lot of character and charm! No wonder reservations a recommended.
