Every year at the beginning of summer, I ask the girls if they have any ideas about what kind of birthday party they want to have. This year Abby wanted a murder mystery and Bella wanted Cupcake Wars, so I smashed those ideas together and came up with The Cupcake Quandary, a tween murder mystery.
Now that summer is fast approaching my mind turns to fun activities we can do to fight the boredom once the summer doldrums set in. I’m trying to avoid anything to do with slime and glitter, while trying to keep the attention span of my tween girls.
I also like to add a bit of education in all of the activities we do, so you’ll notice a STEM theme running throughout most of these boredom busters.
“It” happens to the best of us! We are simply going along in life, trying to raise our kiddos to not beat the snot out of each other and out comes the question, “Mom, what does sex mean?” I was simply driving my 10 year-old girls home from school one glorious autumn day with the windows down when one of them brought up THE QUESTION. She also followed up that they were going to talk about it in health class at the end of the year. I paused to think about such a loaded question and finally responded with “Let me figure out the best way to talk about this subject and do some research and then we will talk.” Luckily my girls said sure and it bought me some time.
