Cheesing around with Haystack

Cheese storage

I love cheese! On crackers, queso, grilled cheese, jalapeno poppers, shredded, sliced, stuff…any which way! I also love discovering how local businesses work and when I found out Haystack Mountain Cheese was only 10 minutes away and they gave tours, we had to venture there.

Founded in 1988 by Jim Schott, Haystack started with a whopping 5 goats and a 6-acre farmstead in Niwot, Colorado. Through steady growth they first appeared in Alfalfa’s markets in 1992 and won their first award that same year. In 2004, they opened their first creamery in Longmont.

They’ve partnered with CCI (Colorado Correctional Industries) in 2007 for their goat milk supply. Inmates learn valuable skills while tending the goats and learning about how a dairy is run.

Milkroll: Ice cream for the adventurous

Go visit them at 3500 E Colfax Ave Denver, Colorado. You won't regret it!

I truly think that ice cream should be its only category on the food pyramid. My father loved it and passed those genes down to me. We always joke that if we couldn’t find dad while we were traveling, we just had to find the nearest ice cream place and there he’d be with the largest cone, making friends with the locals.

When I saw a friend post pictures of a fabulous new ice cream spot in Denver, I had to try it out! Luckily it’s down by the Denver Zoo and the Museum of Nature and Science and a fun way to end a day of exploring.

This Thai-inspired ice cream hit New York and LA in 2015 and landed in Denver in 2016 (why was I so late to this lip-smacking trend?!)

Sticking around for StickerGiant

Spring break is here and I didn’t want my girls to laze around the house all week watching YouTube with knowledge leaking out of their ears, so I decided to inject some fun and learning into their week. I decided touring a sticker factory would fit the bill. We headed up to Longmont for the 45 minute tour of Sticker Giant’s factory.

Sam from the marketing department was our tour guide and he was great! He took us over to the marketing department and showed us their podcast booth and how the marketing department generates leads for the company. They believe that their customers are the heroes of their stories. In fact, their motto is “Every Sticker Has A Story.”
